A pedigree is like a family tree for your dog. It allows us to look back through the generations and see the dogs behind the dog we are breeding.

This is why we believe it is important that the parents of our puppies have pedigree papers. We need to know who Mum and Dad are, where they have come from and what their family lines look like.

Knowing the parents' lineage helps us make better breeding decisions. We can see if dogs are related and avoid breeding dogs that are too closely related to each other.

For example, breeding half-brother and half-sister puppies can increase the chance of problems being passed down because they share the same parent. The same applies even more when very closely related dogs are bred together.

When we bring a new dog into our breeding programme, we have to learn about that dog's family line and make sure it is a good match for the dogs we already have. Keeping a puppy from a line we already know means we have much more information about that family and can make informed decisions about future pairings.
